Shooting Evidence To Be ReviewedNewark officer placed on routine administrative duties By: Jason McAlister The Newark Advocate NEWARK - Prosecutors will review police reports today from a shooting in which a Newark man, who police say was armed, was shot Sunday by a police officer. The case could next be sent to a grand jury, which would determine both whether there is enough evidence to charge the man and if there was any wrong doing on the officer's part. Joseph E. Bennington, 35, of 15272 Trentwood Drive, was in fair condition Monday at Ohio State University Hospital. Patrolman Ronald R. Lewis, 36, who shot Bennington in the shoulder, is on administrative duty - standard police procedure during an investigation of such an incident, said Captain Al. Zellner of the Newark Police Department. |
