Kirkersville man gets one year in prison for vehicular assault

NEWARK — A Kirkersville man who was sentenced Tuesday to one year in prison for vehicular assault said post-traumatic stress from his time spent fighting in Iraq led him to drink alcohol and crash into another vehicle.

Norman P. Doran, 30, last known address 115 S. Alley St., was sentenced to one year in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular assault, a third-degree felony; and driving under suspension and operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated, both first-degree misdemeanors. One count of aggravated vehicular assault, a second-degree felony, will be dismissed.

"He was not left with the tools to deal with stress," said Doran's attorney, Rob Calesaric.
